A man was killed and two others were wounded Monday in north Minneapolis in what police described as a neighborhood dispute that erupted in gunfire.
About 1:20 p.m. on the holiday afternoon, Minneapolis police responded to a call about a fight in the 2700 block of 3rd Street N., quickly followed by a report of a man with a gun and then by reports of a shooting, said spokesman Scott Seroka.
When officers arrived, they found one man lying dead in the street. Another was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with what appeared to be survivable injuries, and another wounded man walked into Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and was later listed in serious condition, Seroka said.
The shooting remains under investigation but is not considered random, police said. They did not disclose what the neighborhood dispute was about, and Seroka said late Monday that no suspect information was being released.
Police said the shooting did not appear to involve gangs.
Amy Johnson, who lives in the area, said she saw a man on the ground fire a weapon, followed by a volley of more than two dozen shots from the vicinity of a man and a woman who quickly ran behind a nearby house.
In the hours after the shooting, a large group of police investigators worked at the cordoned-off scene.
A glance at police blotters from across the metro area quickly shows that neighbor disputes are not unusual. But it is exceedingly rare for one to erupt into violence.
In one of the highest-profile neighbor dispute in the Twin Cities in recent years, a New Brighton man was charged last year with fatally shooting one neighbor and wounding another in May in a feud over feeding deer.
