An 11-year-old boy brought a gun to his northwesterrn Minnesota school and was detained by police, officials said.
The discovery was made Thursday at Fosston Elementary School on the school district's first day back from winter break, police said.
Police said the boy brought the handgun to school in a backpack. They seized the weapon and detained the boy.
No other information has been released by police.
School officials have been asked for comment including whether student families and staff were notified of the incident.
