Three teenagers have been arrested in Saturday night's fatal shooting of a 19-year-old St. Paul man on the city's East Side, police said Thursday.

Marcus Rashon Johnson was found lying near the intersection of N. Kennard Street and Ross Avenue late Saturday. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene from a gunshot.

An 18-year-old man, and two male juveniles, one age 17 and the other 16, have been booked on suspicion of murder, police said in a series of tweets.

"I want to express my condolences to Mr. Johnson's loved ones," Police Chief Todd Axtell said. "His death was absolutely senseless. While we can't change what happened to him, we can do everything possible to find the people responsible. And that's exactly what we did.

"A lot of work went into this case, and everyone — patrol officers, investigators, our SWAT team and others — poured their hearts into the long days and sleepless nights to get justice for Mr. Johnson's family," Axtell said. "I hope it provides some comfort to everyone affected by this tragedy."

Johnson's death was St. Paul's fourth homicide of the year.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes School, 530 Lafond Ave., St. Paul, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mueller Memorial Funeral Home, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul.

According to Johnson's online obituary, he is survived by his parents and two siblings.

He "had a passion and joy for life," his family wrote. "He made an imprint on everyone he met. He was ambitious in his business, academics, basketball, and anything he put his mind too. He had the sweetest soul and a gentle smile. He encouraged others to pursue their dreams. He was unapologetically himself. He was generous, thoughtful, and beyond respectful."

Johnson had created a clothing brand called Splash Supply and was active in his church, his family said.

Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
