5 Minnesota rivers we're watching for flooding
Record snowfall plus fast melting means one thing for many rivers around the state: potential flooding.
Over the past few days, many towns along Minnesota rivers have been preparing to lessen the impact of rising water levels — otherwise known by the National Weather Service as "action" stage. Some rivers are expected to meet — or already have met — major flood stage, which can have "extensive inundation of structures and roads."
On Monday, Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill moving $40 million into a disaster assistance fund, which communities can tap immediately to aid with flood mitigation costs.
