Six people were were wounded by gunfire Wednesday night following a fight at Minneapolis' Little Earth housing complex, including a 14-year-old boy who police consider a suspect in the shooting.

The victims — ages 14, 40, 46, 16, 19 and 21 — were taken to HCMC with injuries that were not life-threatening, police spokeswoman Sgt. Darcy Horn said. One of the victims, the 14-year-old, was arrested in connection with the shooting, along with a 35-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, who were both unharmed, according to a police incident report.

Five of the victims were male and one was female.

The shooting was reported about 7:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Ogema Place.

"It started as a fight, and at some point shots were fired," Horn said. "We are processing the scene and collecting evidence, actively investigating. It's a large crime scene, outside right now ... [and] certainly could expand."

Two hours after the shooting was reported, more than a dozen police squads remained.

Cedar remained shut down between Ogema Place and E.M. Stately Street for several hours to allow investigators to do their work.

Horn said surveillance cameras likely captured at least some of the incident.

Mayor Jacob Frey issued a statement late Wednesday decrying the violence. "Chief [Medaria] Arradondo and I will be working with Little Earth leadership and residents to not only strengthen the community's safety, but also [to] provide additional attention to the challenges that confront the community," he said.
