Compost bins. We noticed them more than a decade ago at Richfield's virtuous Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5k, a completely waste-free event and national trailblazer in eco-friendly practices. We were pleased to spot another round of compost bins this spring at the inaugural Hot Dash 5k and 10-mile event. And now race directors are telling runners to expect even more post-race composting and recycling, especially at Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and affiliated events — thanks in part to pressures from the cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
