An Oak Grove man on an electric bike was killed Friday morning after colliding with a school bus in northern Anoka County, officials said.
Brady Gerald Ausland, 20, died at the scene in the collision, which occurred at 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 47 (also known as St. Francis Boulevard NW.) and Ambassador Boulevard NW. in St. Francis, officials said.
According to the State Patrol, a St. Francis school district bus was eastbound on Ambassador Boulevard when it stopped and then turned south onto Hwy. 47. The collision happened when Ausland, who was wearing a helmet, rode north without stopping at the crosswalk stop sign.
The bus driver, Shelina Marie Hansen, 42, of Cedar, was the only person on the bus, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Hansen was placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of the investigation. According to the State Patrol, alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
St. Francis Area Schools officials released a statement, saying they were "deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and are fully cooperating with local and state law enforcements and agencies in the investigation of this accident."
