"Since returning to the Star Tribune from the Los Angeles Times in 2013, Simmons' visuals teams have won more awards than at any point in the company's history, including an unprecedented four consecutive years in the Top 10 at the Society for News Design's international Creative Competition. In Los Angeles and Minneapolis, he has helped lead award-winning print and digital redesigns, and he has helped create and launch products on platforms of all kinds. Simmons is also the director of the basketball board for East Ridge Athletic Association, as well as a coach.

Simons is a 2004 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, where she studied journalism. Before joining the Minnesota Star Tribune, she was a reporter for the Des Moines Register. Simons lives in Minneapolis.

Sinner is a central-Minnesota native with family roots in North Dakota. She previously worked in Bismarck, N.D., New York and around New Zealand before moving back to the Twin Cities. She's a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Columbia University, and taught at the U's journalism school for several years. She lives in St. Paul with her husband and enjoys being outdoors in all seasons.

Kelly Smith is a news editor, supervising a team of reporters covering Minnesota social services, transportation issues and higher education. She previously worked as a news reporter for 16 years, covering Minnesota nonprofits/philanthropy, politics, Greater Minnesota communities, Hennepin County government, west metro suburbs and K-12 education.
Smith grew up in the Twin Cities and graduated from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. She previously worked for The Forum newspaper in Fargo, N.D., before joining the Minnesota Star Tribune in 2010.
