A man was being held after gunshots were fired Sunday outside Northtown Mall, spurring a lockdown at the Blaine shopping center, police said in a news release.

The Blaine Police Department said officers arrived about 3:30 p.m., contained the mall and cleared the scene. The department confirmed that the gunfire occurred outside the mall, that there was "no longer" a threat to the public and that no one was hurt.

The suspect was found to have a gun before being taken to the Anoka County jail and booked on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, Blaine police Capt. Mark Boerboom said in the statement.

Police reviewed video footage and said a possible dispute between two groups preceded the shooting.

Officers from Blaine, Fridley, Coon Rapids, Ramsey, Spring Lake Park, Columbia Heights and State Patrol troopers responded and helped secure the mall.

Boerboom declined to release more information on Sunday.
