A child pulled from a north Minneapolis swimming pool on Friday evening has died from his injuries, according to Andy Skoogman, spokesman for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

The 12-year-old boy died about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Skoogman said.

He had not been identified as of Tuesday evening.

Park police officers responded to North Commons Water Park between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m. Friday.

Two children had climbed over the 8-foot-tall fence surrounding the pool, according to the emergency dispatch audio.

A witness had called in the emergency after seeing the child at the bottom of the pool.

Officer Allie Simonett, who was on her first day on the job, "jumped in the pool in full uniform" and pulled the child out of the water, Park Board spokeswoman Robin Smothers told the Star Tribune on Friday.

Simonett and her partner Zebariah Hursh then performed CPR before the boy was transported to an area hospital, where he died Tuesday morning.

The child's death comes amid a streak of abnormally high temperatures in the Twin Cities.

This recent heat wave is the earliest that the region has experienced a string of six or more days with high temperatures at or above 90 degrees, according to Tyler Hasenstein, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
