Brad Pitt was at Minnesota airport during 'out-of-control' incident before divorce filing

Was the breakup of Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie triggered by an "out-of-control" incident at a Minnesota airport?

Pitt was reported to the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services for drunken and abusive behavior toward one of their children on a flight from France on Sept. 14, according to TMZ.

The next day, Sept. 15, Jolie filed for divorce. This week, her attorney said the dissolution of the marriage was "for the health of the family."

Because part of the alleged incident occurred in the air, it has been referred to the FBI.

Spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the FBI is evaluating whether to open an investigation into allegations Pitt was abusive during the flight toward one of his six children

TMZ, which also was first to report on the couple's divorce filing, says that the flight landed at a Minnesota airport and that the incident continued after the airplane was on the ground.

The plane's landing at the international airport in International Falls was confirmed Thursday by the Koochiching County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Perryn Hedlund said his office has "been fielding calls ... all day" about Pitt, who "did land at our airport. There were no reported incidents to law enforcement."

Jolie and Pitt are raising six kids: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

Amara Suarez, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, said the agency could not confirm whether it was investigating Pitt or the well-being of the former couple's children.
A representative for Pitt declined comment Thursday.

The abuse report was made anonymously, and Pitt has been interviewed by the Los Angeles DCFS, but the Los Angeles Police Department does not have an investigation open in the case, according to TheWrap.

Both People and TMZ report that Pitt and Jolie were traveling on the private plane last week with their children, and that at some point in the flight, Pitt became abusive toward one of the children. The incident allegedly continued on the tarmac once the plane landed.

TMZ says, according to an anonymous witness, that Pitt was "out of control" and even tried to leave the scene on a fuel truck.

Kyle Loven, FBI spokesman in the Twin Cities, said the FBI is "aware of media reports" about the case, but that there is "no complaint alleging criminal acts" reported to the FBI in Minneapolis. "If the FBI receives information pertaining to potential federal criminal acts," we will review it, he said.

In the divorce filing, Jolie is asking for physical custody of the couple's six children and will ask that Pitt receive visitation rights.

Although they were together for 12 years, Pitt and Jolie — often referred to as "Brangelina" — wed only about two years ago, in August 2014. They married privately at their French chateau in the Provence hamlet of Correns with their children serving as ring bearers.

The pair was last seen publicly together in July, when they were spotted taking their twins to breakfast in Los Angeles.
