A Burnsville man is jailed on suspicion that he fatally stabbed his girlfriend who had a no-contact order taken out on him after he assaulted her earlier this year, according to court records.
Officers were called to the home in the 2000 block of 117th Street E. at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday regarding a domestic disturbance and found a 32-year-old woman inside with fatal stab wounds, police said.
While officials have yet to release her identity, a friend close to the family identified her as Danielle Grace Warren.
Jessica Dahlin said in an online fundraising campaign begun on behalf of the family that Warren's death has left three children without their mother.
The suspect, identified jail records as a 48-year-old man, was arrested in Lakeville on suspicion of second-degree murder. Charges have yet to be filed. The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.
Police have yet to address a motive for the killing, but court records reveal that the man "grabbed [Warren] by her hair and pulled her head down" on March 13 during an argument. The two then "physically struggled" while he took her cellphone, one filing noted.
"[Warren] feels scared of the [her boyfriend] and believes he will hurt her," the filing continued and disclosed they have children together.
On April 2, the man violated the no-contact order when police pulled him over for speeding in Burnsville and saw Warren in the car with him. He pleaded guilty to the violation, with sentencing scheduled for July 9.
A hearing regarding the no-contact order was held April 23, and Judge Matthew Schmidt vacated the order that same day Court records do not shed light on the judge's decision.
