Derek Hitchner shot a 4-under-par 68 in the closing round to win the 118th Minnesota State Amateur by one stroke at Rush Creek Golf Club.
Hitchner had first- and second-round scores of 64 and 69 to finish with a 15-under 201 total — a State Amateur record in relation to par. He beat Caleb VanArragon by one stroke. VanArragon also shot three sub-par rounds and kept the pressure on with his own 68 on Wednesday.
Hitchner, a Class 2A champion at Blake High School as a sophomore, will be a junior this season at Pepperdine this fall.
