A storm that moved through the Twin Cities late Monday morning produced spotty hail but no reports of major damage.
"We got reports of hail measuring up to 1 inch, but it was mixed in with much smaller stuff," said Ross Carlyon of the National Weather Service's Twin Cities forecast center. "Most of the hail was about one-half inch."
The storm, which also produced heavy showers, "basically came up the Minnesota River" starting about 10 a.m., he said. It moved northeast and cleared the metro area by noon.
The hail apparently petered out before the storm crossed into Wisconsin.
Carlyon said there was hail at the weather service office in Chanhassen, "and we had reports of nickle-sized hail in Loring Park" in downtown Minneapolis.
"Most of the reports came from St. Paul, Vadnais Lake, White Bear Lake and up through Marine on the St. Croix. By the time the storm hit New Richmond [Wis.], we didn't hear any more about hail."
