Ninth-ranked Minnesota Duluth scored three goals in the first period and added two shorthanded goals in the second to rout No. 5 St. Cloud State 5-1 on Friday night in NCHC men's hockey at Amsoil Arena.

Karson Kuhlman had two goals for the Bulldogs. His first put UMD ahead 1-0 in the third minute of play, and his second, with six seconds left in the second period and a man short, made it 5-0.

Peter Krieger and Joey Anderson also scored for Minnesota Duluth in the first. Anderson's goal came with 11 seconds left.

Parker Mackay had UMD's other shorthanded goal, in the middle period.

Ryan Poehling scored the Huskies' goal midway through the third.

Hunter Shepard had 24 saves for UMD, David Hrenak 14 for St. Cloud State.

No. 4 Denver 4, No. 11 North Dakota 3 (OT): Hayden Shaw of the Fighting Hawks scored with 1:32 left in the third period to tie the game at 3-all at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Neither team could get another goal in the first overtime, five minutes of 5-on-5, so the result will officially be a tie. But the Pioneers got an extra point in the NCHC standings when Troy Terry got a goal with 49 seconds left in the second 3-on-3 overtime. Earlier, Terry's power-play goal at 5:56 of the third period gave the Pioneers a 3-2 lead. UND went ahead 2-0 in the first six minutes of the game on goals by Cole Smith and Shane Gersich.

Big Ten

No. 6 Ohio State 4, No. 17 Michigan 0: Mason Jobst and Dakota Joshua each had a goal in the third period and an assist, and Sean Romeo stopped 32 shots as the Buckeyes beat the visiting Wolverines. Kevin Miller in the first period and Tanner Laczynski had the other goals for Ohio State, which has won eight of its past nine games to move into second place in the conference race.

No. 18 Wisconsin 4, No. 14 Penn State 2: The Badgers scored three goals in the third period to beat the visiting Nittany Lions. Josh Ess got the tying goal at 10:24 and Will Johnson the winner at 16:09.

Alabama Huntsville 5, Bemidji St. 1: The Beavers, who were 8-1-4 in their past 13 games, ran into a hot goalie in Huntsville. Jordan Uhelski stopped 30 shots and Madison Dunn had two goals and an assist to lead the Chargers over Bemidji State.
