Lynx update: The Lynx are coming off their first loss in four games this season, Sunday at Phoenix against the 2014 league champions. The Mercury, playing without Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner, entered the game as one of the poorest-shooting teams in the league but forced 16 Lynx turnovers and shot nearly 41 percent in an easy victory. The Lynx were 0-for-9 on three-pointers and shot a season-low 35.8 percent. F Maya Moore is struggling with her shot. Moore has shot 12-for-42 (28.6 percent) over her past three games, going 1-for-13 from three-point range during that time. Still, Moore and Lindsay Whalen are tied for the team lead in scoring (15.8). The Lynx won three of four meetings with the Sparks last season, including both games in Los Angeles.
Sparks update: Los Angeles is 0-2 after opening the season with home and away losses to Seattle. The Sparks are playing without star Candace Parker, who is resting and might not return until late in the season, and guard Kristi Toliver, who is playing for Slovakia in the EuroBasket tournament. The Sparks are last in the league in scoring (57.5) and field goal percentage (36.3). G/F Alana Beard leads the Sparks in scoring (15.0). Center Jantel Lavender is averaging 11.0 points and 10.5 rebounds.
