A man is dead and a woman is being held on probable cause criminal vehicular manslaughter following a crash late Friday night, according to Golden Valley police.

The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m on Hwy. 100 and escalated on Duluth Street, just east of the highway. While it initially appeared to be a road rage episode, the parties knew each other, Asst. Police Chief Rudy Perez said.

According to Perez, the victim was driving one vehicle and the suspect was driving another vehicle behind him. When the victim began to drive erratically, another person in his car tried to force him to pull over.

The victim then jumped out of his vehicle and the suspect in the following vehicle struck him, Perez said. Golden Valley firefighters and police officers were able to resuscitate the victim at the scene, but the man died of his injuries.

Others in the cars were transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale for evaluation of their injuries.

Sara Anne Persons, 40, of Mounds View, was being held Saturday night at the Hennepin County jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular manslaughter. The name of the victim has not been released.

Police are waiting for toxicology reports from all involved parties, Perez said.

"It was a very horrific, tragic accident," he said. "But at the same time, we've got to make sure that we don't leave any stone unturned, because there might be the possibility of people being under the influence."
