If you live in the north suburbs, there's one side benefit to all this rain: Interstate 694 will stay open this weekend.
Because of more rain in the weekend forecast, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is postponing its plans to close westbound I-694 in New Brighton and Fridley, from I-35W to Hwy. 252, to paint five overpass bridges.
Instead, westbound 694 will be closed the following weekend, from 10 p.m. Fri., Sept. 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, weather permitting. After that, one additional closure is planned for Oct. 7-10.
