A much scaled-down version of Ikea's big sprawling stores is coming to Rosedale Center.
On Friday, the Swedish retailer is opening a pop-up shop at the mall in Roseville. It is one of the first of its kind in the U.S. as the retailer has started trying out this newer, limited-format showroom aimed at inspiration and convenience.
Last year, Ikea opened a kitchen planning pop-up store at a mall in New Jersey.
At the 2,400 square foot, Ikea's outpost at Rosedale will feature various room layouts displaying possible living room, bedroom and kitchen settings. Customers will be able to make online purchases and to access planning and design services.
Starting in mid-March, shoppers will also be able to choose that location to pick up online orders of certain products.
It will not have any takeaway items that customers can browse, purchase, and go home with as is the case with a traditional store.
"This new experience is designed to enhance our customer's journey and deliver inspiration while also increasing their awareness of Ikea home furnishing solutions and services available at Ikea in Bloomington or online at Ikea.com," Sanjay Kumar, marketing manager for Ikea Minneapolis, said in a statement.
The pop-up shop will be open for six months.
There will be a grand opening celebration at 10 a.m. Friday with gift cards and free bags of meatballs for the first 25 customers.
Ikea has a full-size standalone store in Bloomington next to Mall of America.
