Road trips
Another major championship isn't coming to Hazeltine National until 2024 at the earliest, but a handful are coming to the Midwest starting next summer and beyond:
2017 U.S. Open
June 12-18, Erin Hills, Erin, Wis.
It's a rare Open in the Midwest, at a decade-old venue on a big and brawny, high-end, daily-fee layout 45 minutes northwest of Milwaukee. Tickets for sale now at usopen.com.
2017 Solheim Cup
Aug. 14-20, Des Moines Golf and C.C., West Des Moines, Iowa
The best women from the United States and Europe play a Ryder Cup-type format for three days in Iowa. Weekly tickets for sale at solheimcupusa.com, volunteers still accepted.
2020 Ryder Cup
September 2020 (dates TBD) Whistling Straits, Haven, Wis.
After a 2018 stop in Paris, the nationalistic match-play event comes back to the Midwest, five hours away on a course that's a little bit of Ireland right on Lake Michigan.
BMW Championship?
The FedEx Cup playoff event is played every September on a rotation of mostly Midwestern courses. It's booked through 2019. Don't be surprised if Windsong Farm in Independence gets one after that.
