Jonathan Weinhagen has been named the new president and chief executive of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Weinhagen, who starts in his role Oct. 10, was selected by the chamber's board after past president and chief executive Todd Klingel retired in June for health reasons.
Klingel had led the organization for more than a decade.
Weinhagen has served as the vice president of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce since 2014.
"Over the past several years, our two organizations have worked closely on issues of mutual interest, and I have admired the work Todd Klingel and the Minneapolis chamber staff [did] in creating value for their members and the region," Weinhagen said in a statement. "For me, the new position will be an opportunity to apply my experience to an organization that represents a diverse cross-section of companies in our community."
Weinhagen joined the St. Paul chamber in 2010, and held different positions including regional director and member services manager. Weinhagen was part of the team that helped return the chamber to profitability.
"We are delighted to bring on a leader with Jonathan's chamber expertise and talent," Laura McCarten, who chairs the Minneapolis chamber's board, said in a statement. "His experience in helping rebuild the St. Paul chamber and working to put it back on solid financial footing is impressive."
Before joining the chamber, Weinhagen spent a dozen years at his family's St. Paul business, Weinhagen Tire Co. He also serves on the Mounds View Public Schools Board of Education and is president of the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation.
