Dick Beetsch, a member of the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, died on July 17.
Beetsch, who coached at Long Prairie, Kasson, Windom and Red Wing High Schools, was 87.
Beetsch directed three teams to the state tournament — Windom in 1966 and Red Wing in 1971 and 1972 — during a 38-year coaching career. Red Wing was the Class A runner-up in 1971. Beetsch, who retired in 1994, had a career record of 382-248.
Beetsch was a native of Mankato and attended Iowa Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa). In college, he was a three-sport star, lettering in baseball, basketball and football 12 times. He is a member of the Northern Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home in Red Wing.
