Brainerd area: The best walleye action has been on the Whitefish chain and Lake Edward on the larger main-lake structures using Lindy Rigs with redtail chub minnows. Northerns are being caught on North Long, Edwards and the Whitefish chain. Anglers are using a variety of plastic baits for bass along the edges of cabbage. Sunfish are hitting leeches under slip bobbers near weedlines at 12-16 feet.

Detroit Lakes area: Early morning or evening has been best for walleyes on most area lakes at about 18-26 feet on points, bars or midlake humps using bottom bouncers or Lindy Rigs with live bait. Largemouth bass are taking jigs with minnows near weedlines. Northerns are being caught on plugs trolled or cast or on large sucker minnows on weedlines.

Ely area: Walleye action has been inconsistent, but a few are being caught near deep drop-offs on crankbaits. Largemouth and smallmouth bass action has been solid early mornings and in the evening on crankbaits or spinner baits. Northerns are taking sucker minnows or spinner baits at 10-15 feet along weedlines.

Lake of the Woods: Anglers are drifting on sand flats or anchoring near rockpiles for good walleye action at 28-32 feet. At the Northwest Angle, walleyes are hitting bottom bouncers and spinners with nightcrawlers or minnows or crankbaits trolled at 20-24 feet around Four Blocks, Little Oak and Garden Island. On the Rainy River, walleyes are taking crankbaits or spinners.

Lake Winnibigoshish: Main-lake bars and humps at 14-18 feet have been producing walleyes on crankbaits or spinner and live bait combinations. Perch are being caught on main-lake bars at 20-35 feet. Northerns are being caught on spoons or crankbaits near weedlines at 6-10 feet. For sunfish, anglers are using a small leech with a bobber outside of weedlines.

Leech Lake: Those trying to catch walleyes are using live-bait rigs with nightcrawlers at 14-18 feet on Walker Bay, Pine Point and West Goose Flats. The evening bite on Sand Point is producing walleyes at 10-12 feet on a slip bobber and leech. Boy Bay is giving up sunfish at 6-8 feet. Muskie action has been inconsistent, but topwater baits have been the best option on the rocks.
