Need a basket? Katie Borowicz was there. An assist? A steal? Borowicz, Borowicz.

Borowicz had a career-high 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting and added five assists and five steals on Sunday to lead the Gophers women's basketball team to a 77-65 victory over Liberty at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va.

Coming off a 73-70 loss to Virginia on Saturday, the Gophers (4-2) held a double-digit lead for much of the second half against the Flames (2-4). They shot 47% from the field and turned the ball over only five times in the final 20 minutes.

On top of that, they had assists on 18 of their 30 baskets and got 27 points from the bench.

In other words, it was a timely victory with games coming up against Power Five schools Wake Forest, Penn State, Kentucky and Iowa.

"We had a lot of assists, finished toward the basket and stayed together as a team," Borowicz said during a postgame radio interview.

Borowicz helped give the Gophers a 36-31 halftime lead with 13 points.

Rose Micheaux added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Gophers, and Amaya Battle had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists off the bench. In 17 minutes of action, reserve Angelina Hammond scored eight points and made two three-pointers.

That more than made up for an off game by Mara Braun. One day after her first double-double (24 points, 10 rebounds) as a Gopher, Braun had only three points on 1-for-10 shooting. But her teammates had her back.

"I thought we came out and needed a bounceback after yesterday," coach Lindsay Whalen said. "You've got to turn around really quick. Just proud of the group as a whole."

Mya Berkman led Liberty with 26 points and 11 rebounds. She was 10-for-15 from the field.
