Octavia Shonte Marberry got a prison term for her role in a series of armed robberies last October in the parking lots of a Target and Cub Foods in south Minneapolis.

The robbery spree ended Oct. 20 when Marberry's brother and accomplice, Darren Evanovich, was shot and killed by an armed witness. The county attorney later determined the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Marberry, 21, of Minneapolis, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony armed robbery, and a Hennepin District judge sentenced her to 41 months in prison on the first count. She was also given a sentence of 57 months for the second sentence but it was stayed for 10 years, meaning she will not have to serve the sentence unless she violates the terms of her probation. She was given 109 days credit for time already served.

Marberry was convicted of robbing women at knifepoint of their purses, wallets or car keys on Oct. 12 and Oct. 15 as the victims walked to their cars after shopping at the stores near E. Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue.
