The NBA playoffs begin April 19. The top six teams in each conference qualify for those playoffs.
With three games left in the regular season, the Timberwolves (46-33) are in eighth place in the Western Conference after a bad loss in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
The teams that end the season between seventh and 10th place in each conference take part in the play-in tournament, with two teams advancing to the playoffs.
The seventh- and eighth-place teams face each other Tuesday, with the winner of that game earning the No. 7 seed in its conference.
The ninth- and 10th-place teams face each other Wednesday, with the winner of that game facing the loser of the 7-8 game on April 18 for the No. 8 seed.
Oklahoma City has clinched the No. 1 spot in the West, and Houston seems safely in second.
There are six teams in the West trying to avoid the play-in tournament.
The Lakers (49-31) are in third place. The Nuggets and Clippers are tied for fourth at 48-32, a game behind the Lakers. The Grizzlies (47-32) are sixth and the Warriors (47-33) are seventh.
Heading into tonight's game in Memphis, the Wolves are 2½ behind the Lakers, 1½ behind the Nuggets and Clippers, one behind the Grizzlies and a half-game behind the Warriors.

Friday: vs. Brooklyn, 8 p.m.
Sunday: vs. Utah, 2:30 p.m.
