Nancy Elizabeth (Bros) Welch

Welch, Nancy Elizabeth (Bros) 87, passed away on October 14 surrounded by family. Born on June 20, 1937, in Minneapolis, Nancy graduated from Edina High School in 1955, where she met some of her most cherished, lifelong friends. After high school, Nancy attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she studied elementary education, joined the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, and met her husband of 65 years, Bill Welch. After graduating college, Nancy and Bill married and taught in Bloomfield, Iowa for one year before moving to Davenport, Iowa, where their daughter Wendy was born. In 1961, Nancy and Bill moved to Bloomington, Minnesota, where Bill taught in the Edina Public School system for 33 years. Son David was born in March 1963 and the family moved to Edina, Minnesota in 1968. Nancy worked as an English para-professional in the Edina school system, helping to review student essays. Her summers were spent at Cobble Crest, the family lake home, located just outside Brainerd, Minnesota, where she hosted endless streams of visiting friends, family, and friends of family with grace, warmth, and kindness. Nancy also enjoyed reading, spending time on Hilton Head Island, creating gorgeous cross stitch art, traveling the world, and beating anyone who dared to play her in Hand and Foot. A beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, Nancy is survived by her husband Bill and their children, Wendy Grim (Roger) and David (Allie); her four grandchildren, Matthew Grim (Jenna), Jack, Joseph, and Brendan; her brother Daniel Bros (Ann); her two nephews, Andrew Bros (Heidi) and Rob Bros (Shannon); and numerous cousins and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Frances Bros. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, at Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church, 9920 Normandale Boulevard, Bloomington, Minnesota. Barbara Wharton

Wharton, Barbara of Woodbury, MN peacefully passed away on September 26, 2024. She has happily joined her husband, Keith. Barbara (nee Birdwell) was born in Big Spring, Texas, and later moved to El Paso, Texas where she graduated from Ysleta High School and then went to college at Texas Western, now the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), where she met Keith Wharton. Keith and Barbara married on November 27, 1956. Once Keith completed his PhD, Barbara and their three children moved to Minnesota after he accepted a position with the University of Minnesota. Barbara taught exercise classes at the Shoreview YMCA. She also instructed in badminton and tennis, played golf, and bowled regularly. In the community of Roseville Barbara worked with community leaders to begin the first recycling program as well as the first senior citizen exercise classes and successfully sold Mary Kay cosmetics for many years. She began her years of travel in 1979 with The Friendship Force, an exchange program for adults established by Rosalynn Carter in 1977; Ireland, New Zealand, Japan, Turkey, and Ghana were among her more memorable exchanges. She served as the president of the local chapter for several years. Barbara was a Chi Omega sorority sister, a P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) member, and in The League of Women Voters. When Keith retired from the U of M he and Barbara moved to Greensboro, NC for many years, but returned to Minnesota in 2010. Although not teaching exercise anymore, Barbara remained active, took up pickleball at age 74, and played until she was 81 - proving to the younger players that the "old lady" knew how to play. Barbara will be greatly missed by family and friends, here and abroad. A Service of Remembrance will be held on October 24, 1:30pm, at Stonecrest Presbyterian Home, 8725 Promenade Lane, Woodbury. Martha Elizabeth Williams

Williams, Martha Elizabeth Born 5/13/1950 Passed 10/15/2024 Loving wife, mother, mother-in- law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Martha was a spark that lit up every room that she was in. She was deeply loyal to her family, especially to her beloved husband of 52 years, her children, and her 3 grandchildren who she referred to as her "doll babies." Martha was a devoted Special Education teacher for more than 40 years, working in classrooms that were both challenging and joyful. Of her greatest gifts were her sense of humor, her ability to make everyone feel welcome, and mediate peace. We mourn here on earth, but rejoice in the hope of heaven. Martha is preceded in death by her daughter, Molly Williams and her parents, Lawrence & Eunice Beckman. She is survived by her husband David; son Peter (Amy); granddaughters: Elsie, Clara, and Lucy; and many other beloved family and friends. Robert James Winkler

Winkler, Robert James age 90, lifelong resident of the Minneapolis area, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 4, 2024, succumbing to a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Reaching the age of 90 was his goal and Robert (Bob) did not allow any illness to stand in the way of achieving that. Bob is survived by daughters: Dawn (Ross) Glynn, Diane (Michael) Levin, and Denise (Nour-Eddine) Aboussir; seven grandchildren: Connor Glynn, Taryn (Connor) Wand, James Levin, Andy Levin, Joe Levin, Nadia (Joe) Martyn, and Leila (Michael) Berg; three great-grandchildren: George Martyn, Evelyn Martyn, and Chase Wand. Bob is also survived by brother-in-law Wayne Anderson, many loved nieces and nephews, and his patient and kind friends who helped Bob greatly in his later years. Bob was preceded in death by wife Barbara, daughter Debra, and sisters Rita Blevins and Shirley Smiles. Special thanks to North Memorial Hospice Care, specifically to Wilder, Shelby, and Jennifer for their compassionate support and care, and calm advice during Bob's late illness. William Wyatt

Wyatt, William lifelong resident of Orono, MN, passed away at home on October 4, 2024. Bill was born in 1940 in Minneapolis; he graduated from Orono Schools and got a degree from St Cloud State University. After college he enlisted in the Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Captain. For over 30 years Bill was a DOD Contract Administrator for Honeywell and Alliant Tech with a reputation as an outstanding negotiator. Bill was a self-made man who loved his family, who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and who could fix anything. A true Minnesotan, he loved outdoor sports like sailing & iceboating, lutefisk dinners, and homemade pies. Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years: Sara; son: Michael & fiancée Andrea Long; grandson: Sampson Hollander-Wyatt; brother: Bob Wyatt (Carol), sister-in-law: Judy Gildersleeve; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by daughter: Melissa, and sister-in-law: Judy Wyatt, and brother-in-law: John Gildersleeve. Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, October 26th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Long Lake. Visitation is one hour prior to services at 12pm with lunch to follow.
