BIG TEN POWER RANKINGS

Randy Johnson ranks 'em:

1. Penn State (2-0): Shots fired in rivalry. Nittany Lions throttle Pitt, and coach James Franklin compares it to beating Akron.

2. Michigan (2-0): Wolverines were sluggish early vs. Cincinnati but pulled away.

3. Wisconsin (2-0): Freshman RB Jonathan Taylor (223 yards, three TDs last week) and that big O-line should give BYU trouble.

4. Ohio State (1-1): In the wake of the loss to Oklahoma, there are whispers that maybe J.T. Barrett isn't the Buckeyes' best QB.

5. Iowa (2-0): The Hawkeyes have North Texas as their tune-up for next week's Big Ten opener vs. Penn State.

6. Maryland (2-0): True freshman QB Kasim Hill started 8-for-8 in 63-17 blowout of Towson.

7. Michigan State (2-0): The Spartans have allowed three TDs so far — two fumble returns and a kickoff return.

8. Gophers (2-0): Did that 48-14 rout of Oregon State say more about the Gophers or more about the Beavers?

9. Nebraska (1-1): Hmm. The Huskers give up 78 points over two games, and coach Mike Riley gets a one-year contract extension and is in line for another.

10. Northwestern (1-1): Their 41-17 loss at Duke showed an offense with major flaws.

11. Indiana (1-1): Game against Florida International has been canceled because of Hurricane Irma, and Hoosiers are looking for a replacement.

12. Purdue (1-1): High-scoring Boilers face a Missouri team that just fired its D coordinator.

13. Illinois (2-0): Impressive in holding Western Kentucky to seven points. Schedule stiffens with Friday game at South Florida.

14. Rutgers (0-2): The Scarlet Knights' 11-game losing streak should end against Morgan State, shouldn't it?
