A woman was injured in a drive-by shooting Saturday night in Golden Valley, jarring a typically quiet suburb that Mayor Shep Harris said is rattled by that and an unrelated shooting a few days earlier.

"We're understandably alarmed," Harris said in an interview Sunday. "This is a highly unusual violent incident which really doesn't occur in Golden Valley."

A woman was injured in the Saturday night shooting, which the Golden Valley Police Department said involved two vehicles trading fire near Duluth Street and Regent Avenue N, near Highway 100. They reported Sunday afternoon that she was in stable condition at a local hospital; they were still in search of the other vehicle involved.

On Feb. 16, police officers who responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a neighborhood apprehended one individual but were fired upon while chasing a second individual who fled on foot.

No officers were injured, Harris said, and the shooting suspect was apprehended.

Harris spent Sunday visiting with neighbors and getting updates on the condition of the woman shot Saturday night.

In that incident, officers were called to the area on a report of a drive-by shooting. They said multiple shots were fired in an incident that involved two vehicles. Harris said an ambulance was in the area to immediately render aide to the victim

The police department's press release said that the suspect vehicle was a light-colored sedan with yellow lights that fled east on Golden Valley Road. Police continue to investigate the incident.

"We're concerned about the situation and taking it very seriously," Harris said. "Both seem to be isolated and not indicative of some sort of crime trend in Golden Valley. I'm confident in the police department and their ability to investigate both incidents."
