A 16-year-old boy was charged Tuesday with murder in the late-night shooting in Columbia Heights of a man who was dropped off in a private vehicle at the hospital before he died.

Abdihafed Mohamed Abdirisak, who was arrested Sunday in Minneapolis, is charged in Anoka County District Court with second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Ibrahim Faisal Dabarani, 20, of Minneapolis.

The County Attorney's Office informed the court that it intends to prosecute Abdirisak as an adult. In the meantime, Abdirisak remains in custody and is due back in court on March 17.

Police said they believe Dabarani was wounded in the 4200 block of Central Avenue NE. shortly before 11:10 p.m. Friday and then dropped off by a private party at North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, where he died a few minutes after midnight.

According to the juvenile petition:

Hospital staff reported to law enforcement seeing a car drop off Dabarani and then leave.

Police found the car Sunday night in Columbia Heights near Reservoir Boulevard and 42nd Avenue NE. and identified the driver as an 18-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed in the charging document.

The 18-year-old said he and Dabarani were at the Yummy Bites coffee shop in the 4200 block of Central Avenue that night. He said Dabarani got out of the car and adjusted his clothing before there was a gunshot. The teenager said he drove Dabarani to the hospital and left.

Later Sunday, the teenager came to police and admitted to telling less than the truth the first time. He said he and Dabarani picked up Abdirisak at his home.

After driving around for a while, the teenager continued, Abdirisak was moving a gun from his backpack to his jacket while in the back seat, and a shot from the weapon hit Dabarani.
