HOT MULLED CIDER

Serves 4.

Note: Applejack is a fruit spirit, essentially a brandy.

• 3 c. fresh apple cider

• 3 tbsp. maple syrup or honey

• 3 whole allspice berries

• 1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg

• 4 whole cloves

• 4 cinnamon sticks, broken in half

• 1/2 c. applejack (see Note)

• Cinnamon sticks and apple slices for garnish

Directions

In a saucepan, stir together the cider, maple syrup or honey, allspice berries, nutmeg and broken cinnamon sticks. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes. Strain out and discard the spices. Stir in the applejack and serve in mugs garnished with the cinnamon sticks or apple slices.
