Officials on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who police say was struck and killed by a motorist over the weekend in Richfield.
Lavelle Maurice Harris, 56, of Minneapolis, suffered various injuries when he was hit shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on Nicollet Avenue north of 66th Street.
The Hennepin County jail log identified the driver as 40-year-old Cleito Fontanive, of Richfield. Fontanive remains jailed on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide with charges pending as of late Tuesday morning.
Police said in a statement that Fontanive was parked nearby when officers arrived.
As Fontanive approached officers, he appeared drunk and was arrested, police said.
Harris was not in the crosswalk when he was struck, a preliminary police investigation showed.
