PRACTICING SAFE GOLF

At least two metro-area golf courses remained open for play even after a March 16 order to temporarily close public accommodations. Both deployed measures to encourage social distancing, and state golf advocates believe there are ways to make the game safe amid coronavirus concerns.

• Don't touch anything another golfer can: No sand-trap rakes and ball washers.

• Walk and carry your bag, if possible. One player per cart if riding; sanitize cart before each round.

• Pull cup liners partly out of each hole to avoid picking a ball out of the cup. Don't touch flagsticks.

• Online tee times and payment.

• Remain six feet apart from others.

• Throw away used scorecard pencils.

• No shaking hands with other players.
