A small airplane made an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon on a road while trying to make it to the St. Cloud Regional Airport, authorities said.

The pilot and two adult passengers aboard the single-engine Beechcraft were not hurt, and there was no damage to the plane, said Elizabeth Isham Cory, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane was heading from Pierre, S.D., to Cambridge, Minn., when it "requested to be diverted to the St. Cloud airport" on the eastern edge of the city because of "weather concerns," Cory said.

The pilot, Bruce Deckinga, 67, of Petoskey, Mich., said he put his plane down "just short of the runway," a frontage road.

Deckinga, who was on his way back to Michigan, said he chose the St. Cloud airport because it has a longer runway than what was available in Cambridge.

The plane approached the airport from the northwest but undershot the runway and touched down on Benton County Road 90 before crossing into Sherburne County and coming to a stop on 40th Avenue, according to the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office.
