A mother and father were jailed on allegations that they played a role in the Christmas Day drug overdose death of their 1½-year-old son in a St. Paul home, officials said.
Officers found the boy unresponsive shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at a Dayton's Bluff residence in the 1000 block of E. 5th St. The child was transported to Regions Hospital and pronounced dead there, police said.
Police said they arrested the boy's parents at the scene, a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter.
Charges have yet to be filed. The Minnesota Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.
Police have yet to say what drugs were ingested or who was with the child — if anyone — at the time.
