State Rep. Joe Atkins of Inver Grove Heights and environmental activist Holly Jenkins of Eagan will face each other in the November general election for a seat on the Dakota County Board.
Greg Buck of Eagan was eliminated in Tuesday's primary election for the Fourth District seat being vacated by retiring Chairwoman Nancy Schouweiler, who represents Rosemount, south Inver Grove Heights and southeast Eagan.
In the other board election contested Tuesday — the Third District representing Mendota Heights and most of Eagan — incumbent Thomas Egan will face challenger Janine Hudson. Scott Johnson was eliminated.
A mayoral race to watch is taking shape in West St. Paul, where incumbent David Meisinger faces a strong challenge from Jenny Halverson. Halverson outpolled Meisinger by 5 percentage points on Tuesday, but both advanced to the general election after challenger Morgan Kavanaugh was eliminated.
In other matchups set by Tuesday's primary:
• Burnsville — Dan Gustafson, Jim Bradrick, Cara Schulz and Robin Harris will compete for two open City Council seats.
• Inver Grove Heights — Incumbent Tom Bartholomew, Kara Perry, Jarid Friese and John Weiser will compete for two City Council seats.
• Rosemount — Incumbents Jeff Weisensel and Vanessa Demuth, Heidi Freske and Brenda Rivera are in the running for two City Council seats.
