Spirit in the sky

Jennifer Lopez, Lady Antebellum, Sheryl Crow and Brad Paisley are among the performers on hand for "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular," billed as the nation's largest fireworks display in more than a decade. More than 60,000 shells will be launched from five barges positioned in the East River off midtown Manhattan.

Music stars including Jimmy Buffett, Pentatonix, Renee Fleming and Luke Combs join the National Symphony Orchestra for "A Capitol Fourth," broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Yes, there will be fireworks, too, plus cannons for the finale, Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture."

A new Hugh

Hugh Grant won raves when "A Very English Scandal" premiered in Britain last month. "Revelatory," wrote the Guardian critic in a five-star review. Now the three-part miniseries comes to the States, with Grant playing Jeremy Thorpe, a charming but ruthless Parliament leader charged in 1979 with conspiring to murder his ex-lover (Ben Whishaw). Scripted by Russell Davies ("Queer as Folk"), it was directed by two-time Oscar nominee Stephen Frears ("The Queen").
