A University of St. Thomas student was accidentally shot Friday night inside a residence hall, authorities said.
The student was injured seriously enough to require surgery after a gun was accidentally discharged in another room, sending a bullet through a wall in Flynn Hall, the university said Saturday.
The injured student is said to be recovering and stable.
Weapons are not allowed in St. Thomas residence halls, the school confirmed in a release early Saturday.
On Friday, after the shooting an alert was posted on the school's website saying there was no threat to the public.
Police "authorized an all-clear for the accidental discharge in Flynn Hall for the campus community," the alert said. "No further threat."
The incident is under active investigation by the St. Paul police. Because it is an active investigation no further details are available at this time.
According to the school's website, the university prohibits "all weapons on university property except where possession of a weapon is a requirement of an individual's job."
