Unlocking the secrets of the aging mind Dr. Gene D. Cohen, director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at George Washington University, will speak on the aging process and mind power at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at Ridgedale Library, 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka.

Cohen's new book, "The Mature Mind: The Positive Power of the Aging Brain," describes new research that has shown that as it ages, "the brain is far more flexible and adaptable than once thought."

Minneapolis libraries reopen to fanfare The reopening of three Minneapolis public libraries that are now part of the Hennepin County system will be celebrated Saturday with refreshments and remarks from county and city officials. Events are scheduled for 10 a.m. at Roosevelt Library, 4026 28th Av. S.; noon at Southeast Library, 1222 SE. 4th St.; and 2 p.m. at Webber Park Library, 4310 Webber Pkwy.

It's winter, so get out those golf clubs The 24th Annual Chilly Open golf tournament is scheduled for Feb. 9 on the frozen edge of Lake Minnetonka in Wayzata.

Registration is $35 per golfer, which covers one round of golf, a Chilly Open winter hat and all-you-can-eat chili at the event's 19th Hole Chili Cookoff.

Immigrants' stories on display in Minnetonka A traveling exhibit about the personal stories of immigrants in a small Minnesota town is on display through January at the Ridgedale Library, 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka.

"Faces of Change" deals with immigration in Pelican Rapids, Minn. Created by writer Joan Jarvis Ellison and photographer Mel Zierke, it can be viewed during regular library hours: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.

State of Wayzata address is set for Jan. 31 Wayzata Mayor Andrew Humphrey will present the state of the city address at a luncheon of the Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce at noon Jan. 31 at the Wayzata Country Club, 200 W. Wayzata Blvd.

Advanced baby sign language class offered The Family and Parenting Center, a program of Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis, is offering advanced baby sign language instruction from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 3 at Sabes Jewish Community Center, 4330 S. Cedar Lake Road, St. Louis Park. Registration must be completed by Jan. 28. The cost is $12.

Children up to age 3 will have a chance to review signs they learned in an earlier baby sign language workshop as well as learn up to 150 additional signs denoting such things as foods, activities and animals.
