Anderson was born in North Dakota, but grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Minnesota, Morris and a master's in journalism from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where his focus was communications law.

In high school, Amanda lugged around her dads giant, shoulder-mounted camcorder to capture the stories of teenagers growing up in Minneapolis. Those tapes have since been lost to time, but Amanda's passion for character driven, visual storytelling hasn't.
A Loyola University Chicago graduate, Amanda completed a fellowship with the Solutions Journalism Network, focusing on telling solutions-based video stories about aging well in rural Minnesota. Prior to working for the Minnesota Star Tribune, Amanda worked for Pioneer PBS, a PBS member station located in Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she was the producer, videographer and editor for its public affairs program. In 2023, Amanda received an Upper Midwest Emmy for a video series examining the rise of plant-based proteins and how "fake meat" is impacting Minnesota's agricultural practices and dietary trends.
Amanda lives in Minneapolis with her partner, Eric, and dog, Ernie and has been renovating a house in Montevideo, Minnesota in her free time.

Jim is from Sunrise, Minn., but has lived most of his life in St. Paul. He's been a reporter, columnist and copy editor at several dailies, including the St. Paul Dispatch and Pioneer Press, Red Wing Republican Eagle, Mankato Free Press, Eau Claire (Wis.) Leader-Telegram and the St. Petersburg Times. He worked two years as a reporter in the Star Tribune's East Metro Bureau. Follow @StribJAnderson

Anna Armstrong hails from a small town in California's Central Valley. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in May 2024. Prior to joining the Minnesota Star Tribune, Armstrong served as a business reporting intern at the San Luis Obispo Tribune on California's Central Coast and served as the managing editor at her collegiate newspaper, The Daily Californian. At The Daily Californian, she reported on city government, housing, higher education and local schools. When she is not busy reporting, Armstrong enjoys watching live music and taking her little Toyota Prius on roadtrips and camping trips.

Roman Augustoviz has been on the sports copy desk since October 2012. Before that he covered Gophers' men hockey and Lynx women's basketball for five years. Going even further back, he was involved with high school sports, as a team leader and reporter, for 20 years.

A Wisconsin native, Bain moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota, where she studied scientific and technical communication. Before coming to the Star Tribune, she lived and worked in south Texas. In her free time, Bain enjoys checking out new restaurants and traveling.
